DB2XML: Generate XML from Databases and CSV Files

DB2XML is a collection of libraries for generation of XML output from relational databases and CSV (Comma Separated Values) files. It maps data to certain XML nodes and attributes. DB2XML has a powerful and easy-to use graphical user interface to specify data sources, define mapping rules, and generate XML files.

DB2XML has a one-click option for creating VisualXSL projects and can be used as an XML generator for VDPMill.

DB2XML is an excellent product for those who need simple, yet very high-performance solution for transforming data from databases and CSV files to XML and can be seamlessly integrated with other RenderX products.

User Guide

DB2XML can use any relational database - such as Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL, - as data source, if the appropriate Data Provider is registered in the system. Some Data Providers require installation, e.g. Oracle Data Provider for .NET / ODP.NET (for Oracle9i Release 2 or later), .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle (version 8i Release 3 or later), or MySQL Connector/Net.

DB2XML supports XML attributes, elements, text and processing instruction nodes, conditional generation, value converters to handle specific tasks, and data grouping to make hierarchical trees from flat input data.

DB2XML jobs are defined as DB2XML tickets. DB2XML GUI Application uses ticket file format to store/load projects.

DB2XML runs on the Windows family of operating system, including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 2008 Server.

Designing Stylesheet in VisualXSL

VisualXSL

With a single click of a button, DB2XML can generate a simple XML file with the defined hierarchy, create a simple VisualXSL (VXSL) project, and open that project in VisualXSL. The XML data file will contain the first top-level node, which is enough for the template design purposes.

Integration with VDPMill

VDPMill

You can use DB2XML as an XML Generator in VDPMill. For that, you need to add the following lines to %VDPMILL_INSTALL_DIR%\conf\vdpmill.conf and %VDPMILL_INSTALL_DIR%\conf\vdpmill-server.conf:

<xml-generators>
   ...
   <xml-generator name="DB2XML" command="file:/%DB2XML_INSTALL_DIR%/
db2xmlcmd.exe"/>
   ...
</xml-generators>

where %DB2XML_INSTALL_DIR% is the DB2XML installation directory.

After that you will be able to specify DB2XML tickets as source data files in VDPMill Ticket Application or VDPMill Interactive Application: DB2XML will connect to the specified data source, and VDPMill will add the generated XML file to the list of input files automatically upon completion.

Licensing Information

DB2XML is indented to be used with other RenderX products, such as VDPMill and VisualXSL, yet it can be used as a standalone product as well. However, RenderX will only provide support to the users that use DB2XML as an add-on to VDPMill and VisualXSL.

A valid license is required for each copy of DB2XML. The licenses are currently provided for free by RenderX.
