FO Tips & Tricks
XSL is a language for specifying stylesheets. Given a
class of arbitrarily structured XML documents or data files,
designers use an XSL stylesheet to express their intentions
about how that structured content should be presented; that
is, how the source content should be laid out and paginated
onto some presentation medium, such as a window in a Web
browser or a hand-held device, or a set of physical pages in
a catalog, report, pamphlet or book.
This book is intended to address the needs of someone
looking for an introduction to the Extensible Stylesheet
Language(XSL) as specified by the World Wide Web Consortium at
http://www.w3.org/Style/XSL/. Specifically
the XSL FO (XSLFO) aspect of XSL, an XML vocabulary targeted at
expressing stylesheets which rigorously express how source
content should be laid out and paginated for presentation.

Demo: Books in DocBook
DocBook is a document type definition (DTD)
available in both SGML and XML. It is particularly
well suited to books and papers about computer
hardware and software (though it is by no means
limited to these applications). XSL stylesheets
transform valid DocBook documents into several
formats, including XSL FO (XSLFO), which is used to produce
quality printed output.
This book is the definitive guide to using
DocBook XSL stylesheets.
It provides the missing documentation to realize the full potential of DocBook
publishing. It covers all aspects of DocBook publishing tools,
including installing, using, and customizing the stylesheets and
associated processing tools.
